Position Summary

The Industrial Engineer plays a critical role in providing engineering support for existing products in production and ensuring a seamless transition from new product development to full-scale manufacturing. This position is responsible for maintaining and controlling engineering documentation and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. A key focus of the role is driving continuous improvement in both processes and products within the manufacturing environment. The Industrial Engineer oversees Engineering Configuration Management, including the control of printed and electronic documentation, as well as the creation and ongoing maintenance of part numbers and Bills of Materials (BOMs). In addition, the Industrial Engineer serves as a vital communication link between Design Engineering and Production. They ensure timely release of production drawings through established document control procedures and manage product lifecycle documentation with an emphasis on transparency, accuracy, and thorough record-keeping.

Essential Job Functions

  •  Ensure all work is performed in compliance with established safety protocols and procedures.
    Enter and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for steel sheet layouts, paint applications, and packaging components.
  • Create production routings in coordination with programming, identifying appropriate machines and utilizing work center lists and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Conduct BOM cost analyses and perform steel and paint usage calculations to support cost optimization.
  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for use in manufacturing.
  • Prepare and analyze On-Time Delivery (OTD) reports and conduct production time studies to improve efficiency.
  • Evaluate, measure, and enhance existing production processes and methods to support continuous improvement.
  • Support training and development efforts for manufacturing personnel to ensure proper process understanding and implementation.
  • Ensure pilot run feedback is documented, reviewed, and implemented; confirm production staff are briefed on all configuration changes before full-scale production begins.
  • Review and verify complete document packages for manufacturability before product release to production.
  • Maintain and update documentation to reflect current configurations and procedures; assist in the creation of documentation for rework, repairs, and conversions.
  • Approve documents for adequacy before issuance.
  • Ensure documents are reviewed, updated, and re-approved as necessary.
  • Monitor and control document revision status and ensure the availability of current versions at the point of use.
  • Maintain document legibility, traceability, and appropriate identification.
  • Manage distribution of documents from external sources and prevent unintended use of obsolete documents by applying appropriate identification and retention procedures.
  • Serve as a Continuous Improvement Leader, identifying and implementing process enhancements.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
     

Level of Authority

  • Modify cost information in BOMs.
  • Redline and approve temporary use of printed documentation in manufacturing pending Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) or deviations.
  • Assign cost values to manufactured parts and processes.
  • Release approved documentation in printed or electronic format with correct identification, revision, and content.
  • Replace outdated, inaccurate, or compromised documentation in Production and Quality departments.
     
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques, process development, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Proven ability to analyze process capability and develop effective plans to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Proficient with PC-based applications and web-hosted software tools.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly self-motivated, adaptable, and effective in collaborative team environments.
  • Quick learner with the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.

 

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The Industrial Engineer will primarily work in a manufacturing environment, which includes both office and production floor settings. The role requires frequent interaction with production personnel, engineers, and cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives and ensure efficient operations.

  • Exposure to industrial machinery, noise, and moving equipment while working on the shop floor.
  • May require occasional use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, and hearing protection.
  • Periodic walking, standing, bending, or climbing may be required during process evaluations and time studies.
  • Occasional lifting of materials or tools up to 25 pounds.
  • Standard business hours apply, but flexibility may be needed to support multiple shifts, special projects, or production timelines.
